Welcome to Tail ID, operated by Elements Technologies LLC ("we", "us"). By installing or using the app, you agree to these Terms.
Your photos, in plain English: You own every photo and video you capture. By contributing, you grant the Tail family — Tail ID, TailPhotos, TailVideos, TailExchange, and any future Tail properties — a license to host, display, and attribute your media on the relevant aircraft's pages, always under your name. We never sell it or give it to advertisers, and you can delete any contribution at any time. The formal version is in §2 below.
1. The service
Tail ID is a mobile app that identifies aircraft from photos you capture and returns publicly available data about the identified aircraft.
2. Your content & the Tail family
When you capture a photo or video in Tail ID:
- You keep ownership of your media. It is and remains yours.
- You grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, sublicensable license to host, store, reproduce, display, and serve the media for the purpose of operating and promoting the Tail family of apps — Tail ID, TailPhotos, TailVideos, TailExchange, and any current or future Tail-branded properties operated by Elements Technologies LLC — including on the public profile pages of the aircraft you photograph.
- You are always credited. Media you contribute is shown under your username / attribution across the Tail family.
- We do not sell your media, license it to advertisers, or provide it to data brokers.
- You confirm you have the right to capture and share the content, and that doing so doesn't violate any law or third party's rights.
- You can delete any contribution at any time from the app; we remove it from the Tail family properties (cached or mirrored copies may persist briefly).
This license exists only so your captures can appear where they're useful — on the aircraft's pages across the network. It ends for any given item when you delete it.
3. Acceptable use
Don't use Tail ID to:
- Stalk, harass, or surveil a specific individual.
- Capture aircraft on restricted military / classified facilities where photography is prohibited.
- Sell, resell, or commercially redistribute the identification API or its output without a license.
- Reverse engineer the app or scrape our backend.
4. Aircraft data accuracy
The aircraft data shown in Tail ID is drawn from public sources (FAA registry, ADS-B exchange, our own platform contributions). We make every effort to keep it accurate but do not guarantee correctness, timeliness, or completeness. Do not rely on Tail ID data for safety-critical decisions.
5. Availability and changes
We may update, change, or discontinue features at any time. We'll give 30 days' notice in-app before any material reduction in service.
6. Disclaimer of warranty
The app is provided "as is." We disclaim all warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Elements Technologies LLC's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the app is limited to USD $100.
8. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account for violation of these Terms. You may stop using the app at any time and delete your account from Settings.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
